Ashburn Lutheran has parents who take a very active role in their child's education. Parents sign a "Committment Form" each year that states their understanding of school policies and procedures. Every Friday students take home a folder with all their corrected assignments and tests inside. Parents must sign the folder acknowledging receipt.


Average test scores rank children at least a year ahead of the grade they currently attend. Students have daily use with computers and swim weekly at the YMCA. Ashburn Lutheran School also offers an extended care program. Before school is free of charge, but after-school includes an hourly fee.

St. Bede's School is a Catholic school which serves three year old pre-school through eighth grade. The school also offers an extended care program. The school offers a well coordinated curriculum which is supported by a tutoring program in both math and reading, a speach teacher, a learning disabilities teacher and two part-time counselors.

 

In addition to the physical education program, St. Bede's offers a wide variety of sports for both boys and girls. The school also offers computer education and classes in the fine arts. Parents are informed of school events through a weekly newsletter and are encouraged to participate in a variety of school programs and activities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Carroll-Rosenwald School

The Rosenwald Branch of Carroll Rosenwald opened a building addition in January of 1997. At both schools students use computers daily in the IBM Write-to-Read program, funded through the Kraft Corp. and State Chapter I Funds. Both schools also have very active parent-teacher associations in addition to the local school council. Also Carroll-Rosenwald has seen a steady increase in standardized test scores over the past five years.

 

 

 

 

 

Charles G. Dawes School

Dawes school is currently undergoing a facelift. When completed, the school will have new windows, lockers, masonry repairs, and a lunch room. Every room has been painted within the past two years by Dawes parents.


Dawes students utilize a computer lab equipped with 30 Macintosh computers, and also have computers in every classroom. Nearly fifty-percent of the students score above average on standardized tests.

St. Denis School is a Catholic school which serves four-year old pre-school through eighth grade. St. Denis is an ethnically diverse parish which emphasizes strong family values.

 

St. Denis students score above average on standardized tests, and participate in a variety of programs. The school offers special classes in Spanish, computers, First Aid and music. The school celebrates its diversity through Ethnic Fairs and other programs. Lenart Regional Gifted Center

The Ted Lenart Regional Gifted Center, a Chicago public school, is one of seven regional centers within the city serving academically gifted children in grades one through eight. Students are selected for the program based on results of cognitive and acheivement testing. The curriculum at Lenart is accelerated approximately two years beyond the standard curriculum. Included in the academic offerings are classes in language arts, physical education, computer science, library science, French and Latin. In addition to a wide range of extracurricular possibilities, Lenart students also participate in after-school and summer programs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Owen Scholastic Academy

Owen Scholastic Academy is a magnet school where teachers practice a "back to basics" curriculum. Admission to the school is done on a lottery procedure. The school stresses building a solid foundation of math and reading skills. Owen students have to participate in a lottery that allows attendance at the school. Similar to the Lenart center, Owen has been successful at making children independant thinkers and productive future leaders.

 

 

 

 

 

Adlai E. Stevenson School

Stevenson School's program runs from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. It is a diverse school with an enrollment of approximately 25% Arabic, 25% Hispanic, 25% White/Caucasian, and 25% African-American. The school has multi-cultural classes which teach all ethnicity about one another. Test scores at the school have been steadily increasing for the past five years and over half of students exceed national and state norms.

 

 

 

 

 

St. Thomas More School

St. Thomas More School's program begins in kindergarten and runs through eighth grade. The school also has an extended care facility that begins at 6:45 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m.

The curriculum includes Catholic religion classes and comprehensive language arts program, in addition to a recently revised science and social studies, math, computer, art, music, library and physical education classes.

 

Parents participate and help elect the nine - member school board, and also volunteer in the Home and School association, sports programs, bingo and Market Day.

Students at Bogan excel in academics, fine arts, and sports. The many academic and fine arts successes include:

  • First Place awards in the Illinois and Chicago Junior Engineering Technical Society Design Competitions
  • First Place awards in North Suburban Math League Competition
  • Statewide recognition in the Academic Decathlon
  • Illinois Classical League awards in Latin
  • Numerous awards in music competitions, art competitions, vocational / technological programs
  • City League and /or divisional titles in football, tennis, swimming, basketball, bowling and volleyball.

 

To acheive such excellence, Bogan has always relied on strong parental involvement. This is an important part of a child's success and we cannot stress the importance of each parent/guardian being actively involved in a child's academic success.

 

Bogan has an Options for Knowledge component in Computers. And beginning in Fall of 1997 it has been designated as an International Baccalaureate School. Consequently, we recruit from across the city of Chicago.
